CINEMA SOUND - Vol. 3 - December 2011

For December’s still-experiemental run of Cinema Sound, I’ve cut out my vocal commentary so you can listen while trimming the tree, sitting by the fire, or driving through the show without hearing me butting in. Here are some selections from my favorite scores that remind me of this time of year. Some are Christmassy in nature like EDWARD SCISSORHANDS (the one score here to represent the musical old-man-winter Danny Elfman), but many of these cues are thrown in just because I’ve attached certain scores in my memory to the time when they came out, like holiday releases TRUE GRIT and VANILLA SKY, or they come from great winter movies like BIRTH (still my favorite score by Alexandre Desplat). Hopefully they blend together nicely, offering you a peek into my wintertime headspace where LET THE RIGHT ONE IN and HOME ALONE share some bizarre overlap… Enjoy, see the tracklist below, and stay tuned for January’s episode featuring the year in film scores 2011.
